Statistically I believe it is true. It's not because boys pick their noses and don't behave. They often learn differently and need more interaction in order to actually learn. Being a passive participant rather than an active one can hinder their development. As boys age, they're also taught (not by their teachers) that school is lame and are discouraged by their peer groups from excelling. My own personal take on it also has to do with the lack of stable father figures. This can be said for girls as well, but I think it's especially hurtful for boys. Boys need POSITIVE MALE ROLE MODELS. They need to see MEN being successful and working hard. Instead, they see deadbeat dads and sports players and musicians who don't need to go to college in order to make it big. They're told all their life that they can do anything they want, and they take this to mean that they've got some sort of a gift that the rest of us don't have, making hard work and determination unnecessary. Girls are given positive female role models all the time as part of the women's rights movement. We're shown women who worked hard to make it in a man's world, and that if we work hard for what we want, we too will succeed. It needs to be that way for both sexes.

It is true, and has been the case for many years. The main reason seems to be that boys don't see learning as 'cool'. Girls can be clever and popular, but it seems that the cleverer/higher achieving the boy, the less likely he is to be popular, and the more likely he is to be teased and picked on.
Has been the case for many years, but there are a lot of government initiatives focused on raising boys' achievement, and it is starting to improve.

In the 50s and 60s, boys were encouraged to achieve especially through the grammar schools. Girls were seen nothing more than nurses and teachers (grammar schools), and wives and mothers (secondary moderns). The comprehensive system changed things for the better but was badly underfunded. It also faced opposition from the establisment.
Thankfully many parents today do realise that their daughters are not breeding machines, and encourage them. But they must also encourage their sons.

Education has been geared towards the feminine mind for a few decades. For example sitting around discussing sh!t.
Boys learn better with the hands on approach. I.e. Pull stuff apart and find out how it works. This disparity has been addressed in countries with high educational standards and has altered the perception that women are smarter than men. They are not. They just think and learn differently.

I have always felt their was a correlation between the sex of teachers and the sex of the brighter students, ie girls relate to female teachers better, and the issue of which is the brighter sex should really be about how we teach students.
Why do people who never had a problem learning maths become the teachers of maths? When they can even grasp how a child could not get some thing (Just talk louder)
anyway rant over

It is true, but only insofar that girls are falling behind the rest of the world slower than boys. Everyone is losing in the USA currently. Experts have put forth many ideas as to why, nobody seems to be able to agree. One thing is certain though, while boys have higher standardized test scores, girls earn better grades. Simply put, girls work harder.
Might have something to do with it not being "cool" for guys to be smart. Might have something to do with changes in curriculum to make it more "girl friendly". Might have something to do with 80% of schoolteachers being women, or it might be the tenure system in the USA, or maybe it's because we don't fail our kids, we give them "deferred passing", or perhaps any number of other theories, who knows?

cos we are smarter and better, harder working, more goal driven and if we didn't do the work we would either go stark raving mad with boredom or have to start comparing snot ball recepies with the boys!! yuck, may as well just do the work if we are gonna have to be there.
besides which it just proves we should have been running the world all along!
then again if we did that there would be very little time for chatting with friends at coffee shops, impulse buying and manicures, .. so you guys keep the world,
just know that if we did want to run it we could, and we would do a much better job than you do!

It has always been the case, The main reason for this is girls work harder and boys are more interested in sports and other things which is why boys acheive more in the real world compared to girls plus they grow up slower than girls.

it is definetly true. statistics show that 60% of college students in the U.S are girls. The highest grades among undergraduate and graduate students are achieved by women, this may be because women have a higher tendency to not engage in risk situations aas using drugs, etc.

yes! girls are more focused! there was a study in a high where they separated the boys and girls and found that the girls did a lot better. boys just want attention so they do stupid things and no one learns anything, this is why i go to an all girls school.
