My girlfriend is just starting a teaching position at a highschool and I am tryin to think of something nice to do for her related to teacher for her first day.

Send flowers to her classroom with a card that says "Tell those rascals they'd better treat you well or they'll have to deal with me!" She'll get them, laugh, the kids will see that she's an awesome lady, with a guy who cares for her, that she has a sense of humor and it'll give 'em something to personalize her with.
Teachers need to be real people to their students, especially at the high school level and knowing that someone finds them worthy of a show of affection makes them more real somehow. Kids don't mean to be damaging... but sometimes they just need to remember that even teachers have feelings and they're just regular folks doing their job... and maybe they have "first day jitters" too.
Added bonus? Have the florist send a box or inexpensive plastic container filled with Tootsie Roll minis and Jolly Ranchers and Hershey Kisses and stuff along with the flowers... because then she's got something to share with the kids. If she parks it on the edge of her desk, it gives them a reason to approach her for closer inspection. It's all psychological, especially by the time you're with high schoolers - lol

Be a good listener when she comes home crying that this isn't like she thought it would be!
Something practical would be a gift card to Staples or similar (all teachers spend their own $$ for required stuff)
Send in a rose to her school. In the frantic world of school, wouldn't that be a nice reminder that someone out there cares?

buy her plenty of hair dye to cover the grey, oh and a bullet proof vest wud go down nice! U could also get her the `Teachers guide to adolesent language translation` book.
