I recentely read in BBC web site Chennai quoted as Detroit of US by Hundai CEO. What is the situation there?

Yeah in a perception of futuristic vision... like as how Detriot is to US in terms of car productivity, Chennai is to India for numerous factories and OEM's accumulate here to use the favourable locational preferences...

E.g. inSouth India bigger cities are Cochin/Trivandrum, Bangalore,Hyderabad and Chennai, where Kearala is ruled out owing to active communism, Bangalore getting ruled out for inadequate infrastructure and Hyderabad for being too far away from a port eventually making transportation cost on the higher end.

Moreover, Chennai is turnin out to be yet another place of pot pouri culture with people of different origins are seen more in numbers and consumption of automobiles here is also on the higher end.

Even purchasing a car has become an inevitable thing for executives becoz, Govt has given a loop hole in Income Tax declaration where 'Lease Car' EMI is non taxable as that value will be never shown in Annual CTC of an employee rather a movement of fund from company to Car Leaser..

Detroit is a major automobile manufacturing hub in the US. And in and around Chennai there are already Ford and Hyundai plants. And recently BMW showed an interest to setup a manufacturing plant near Chennai. Hence we get to hear such statements that Chennai is Detroit of India.
