NO! doctors are now saying NO to TV before age two. first, the baby needs to learn to develop their own attention span. They also need to learn to entertain themselves while mom is busy. Now eye doctors are reporting trouble not seen before with kids, young kids are developing a sort of tunnel vision. These kids watched tv at baby on up, and they learned to block out what is around them so they can focus on thier show. even ewhen away from tv, they still block out what is around them. The results, they walk in front of people and not get out of someone's way, for example. and for my experience as a teacher, these kids fail to develop social language skills. they just don't seem to know how to talk with people. and they complain that they are bored. (there's no TV in my class to entertain them!) keep those TV's off ! Your grandma's did before the day of TV, and she didn't have her little ones clinging to her leg. they learned to keep themselves entertained.

They can not really watch TV at that age. But they love the colors and the sound. Teletubbies are a great fave.
Keep in mind that a baby needs rest regularity and hygiene most of all. As long as you do not mix activity like drinking and watching he/she will love some TV a day at a regular time slot.

Yes! Your baby will enjoy the shapes, sounds and colours.
Having said that, I guess it wouldn't be OK to let your baby watch ANYTHING......but I'm sure you wouldn't be watching something likeThe Chainsaw Massacre or a very blue movie anyway...
I don't think it's a good idea to stick a baby in font of te TV for hours on end....but again, I'm sure you wouldn't do that!
He or she will enjoy watching cbeebies, which is great!

No way! Most reports now are saying that kids under two really shouldn't watch TV. Television shows like this, which just show lots of bright colors and shapes are like training wheels- just a way to draw kids into watching tv earlier and earlier. Instead, you should read books with your child, talk to her, or let her play with toys so she is using all her senses.

My babies watch cbeebies - a lot of the programmes are educational (believe or not - even the teletubbies!!) and sometimes its the only way you can get jobs done around the house without them clinging to your leg.

The AMA and APA don't recommend tv until age two. They say it causes ADHD and other disorders. I guess because it is so fast moving - they get used to be stimulated. And, when they are in the real world it moves too slow for them.
However, when my 6 month old is having a screaming fit. And, I can't calm him down I turn on elmo's world. There is something about that red monster that he just loves.
I do limit it to 10 minutes though. Just to calm him down.

It is not good to start a child out on television at an early age. But most 9 month olds are not interested in Television.

I guess so. But its funny my 9 month old only likes loud singers like beyonce and that new Fergie song I know he like the beats to the music. I have tried dora and diego and the Teletubbies he watches for about a minute and goes back to his own adventures.

I think it is fine for your little one to watch tv. My little man watches certain cartoons while he is in his swing or bouncy seat - he is just shy of 4 months old. I don't let him watch it for hours and I certainly limit what he watches, but I don't see anything wrong with it. For the people who are always quoting professionals, you do not always have to go by the book; every child is different. You just do what you think is best. You are the one who is with your child all day, everyday... You know him or her better than anyone else. Good luck!

Sure, it is okay. It is better to spend the afternoon outdoors getting fresh air and sunshine though.
Question: Is the baby watching television because it wants to or is the television a convenient babysitter for you?
