Starving children in Africa? What about the starving children in America. We as a society need to start taking a look at our own problems for a while. Are schools are not that great, there are many homeless people, there is a huge drug problem.....
But, instead of working on our problems we would rather pay money to watch a football game. Which are a bunch of overpayed people anyway.

You know what I'm tired of hearing about....the starving children in Africa. NOT THAT I DO NOT CARE....BUT, how about the starving children here in our own country?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! I agree America spends waaaaaay too much on the SuperBowl and really any other sports related things but I'm so sick of hearing we need to reach out and help these people in other nations when we have our own people here hurting just as much. Some say well, it's the parents fault, they don't get out and work and such...BUT that does not mean it's that poor childs fault he/she can't eat because their parents are bums. I feel real bad about the starving children all over the world, just as much as I feel bad for women being abused all over the world, children who are victims of child molestation and rape all over the world, but I feel you need to help those at home first...and then reach out and help others.

Well, there are starving children everywhere, including America.
Americans are very generous. They will give for many needy causes. Many Americans donated time, money and clothing, etc for victims of the hurricanes last year.
Americans sent money to victims of the tsunami.
I agree, there is a lot of frivolous spending. It does seem extreme that so much money is spent on a sporting event. Remember, a lot of that money is from corporations or businesses. These corporations and businesses also send money to charitable causes as well.

Why don't you write to the leaders of all the African countries and ask them why THEY aren't doing more to help their own people?
While social justice is the concern of everyone in the world, it should start at home first.
I know I am more than a little upset when my government startes sending my tax dollars to a country that couldn't care less about its own people and would rather the US be wiped off the face of the earth - but they are first in line when there is money to be given out.
But since you started this. . . where are you from and what does your government do to help those in Africa? I would guess not a heck of a lot.

Is it America's duty to help every one in this world? Most of the problems in Afica is caused by politics and factional fighting. It is the government that is starving the people to keep control. Instead of pointing fingers at America maybe those idiot politicians in Africa need to learn to get along peacefully. Then the country will prosper. Most of the aid that countries send over to Africa are stolen by greedy warlords and politicians.

i've ask the same thing why all the attention of sports and no one but Bill Gates ,Warren Buffett, Jimmy Carter and a few others are doing much if anything about these problems? thats one reason i'm not a sports fan of any sort// I pray that this will change but i doubt it will be anytime soon// Theres so much bitching and complaing and the people who need help dont even have food for themselves much less a way to get their message out to ask for help//Their goverments just turn a deaf ear and rape ,slaughter, steal their food sell it and buy weapons so they can steal more/// Its in their blood (genes)// We also need to realize that we have people like this everywhere and the laws are the only reason that its not as in Africa// These people need a honest goverment real bad// Just pray and keep asking these type of questions my friend !!!

I think because the superbowl doesnt take responsibility of poor Africans. The government should donate more money than the superbowl. BTW im not into football at all! I dont care if superbowl closes down forever and the funds go to Africa.

I read a book a couple of years back called 'Ismael'
It had a very different philosophy on the plight of people...
Basically it proposed that when you feed a million starving people, all you get is two million starving people 20 years later...
In a few more generations there will be so many people in the world that we'll all be starving...

What did you do with your last spare $20.00? The Super-Bowl is sponsored by manufacturers who will make money from the advertising they purchase. These multi-million dollar companies do a great deal of charitable work around the world. The players in the Super-Bowl are paid very large salaries and many of them contribute to African charities. You have to spend money to make money to have money to send to worthy charitable causes.

Why does it always have to be about Africa, when we have people dying & starving from hunger right here in our own country, The answer all comes down to corporate greed.
