I heard Joe Girardi was told to stay home. If he's let go it's probably the biggest mistake Loria can make. He's got them in the hunt for a wildcard and recently the Marlins have been playing extremely good, as witnessed by last nights win against St. Louis.

Joe Girarid choose to stay home with his 8 month pregnant wife because of the hurricane. He hasn't been fired yet but rumors say he's on the cutting block which would be wrong since he's gotten manly rookies to be a .500 ball team

I don't have an answer per se, but watching from a distance, it would appear that Joe Girardi should not only be "safe", but should also be the leading candidate for NL Manager of the Year. He's managing (except for Cabrera and Willis) what looked like a AA or AAA team going into the season, and he has them at about .500 and still in contention for a WC.

So, i'm not sure why there is such acrimony between him and Loria, but if I owned the marlins, I'd lock him up in a long-term contract asap.

Joe Girardi stayed home for personal reasons. It had nothing to do with him and Loria. His wife is pregnant with their third child and is due to give birth on Sept. 6. Tropical storm Ernesto was due to hit Miami last night. Girardi did not want to leave his pregnant wife in case the storm was worse than it was, or in case something caused her to go into labor. Loria gave his approval of the decison. I read the story at yahoo sports.

There are plenty of jobs waiting for Girardi if he's fired.

The good word is that Loria is pissed... because he's a very vocal owner (and a very cheap owner)...

Girardi told Loria to "Sit down and shut the **** up."

Loria isn't thrilled about that. Even if it was good advice.

it's ridiculous that he could still get fired even though they have a chance to win the wild card. he is doing a great job. Loria needs to swallow his pride and quit being such a cheap ***! imagine what they could do with a payroll over 20 mill next year

Jason Stark was on Mike and MIke this morning and he says he sees no way that they will fire him this season. Looks like the owner is just mad but wont do anything about it till next season. He has a big ego like Buck
