I'm from Montpelier in Bristol, a really cool little part full of nice bars, cafes and shops and mainly inhabited by overgrown students and hippy-ish types. It's quite near to St Pauls, which is pretty rough although I've never had any trouble there and I walk through most days on my way to work.

Hi i live in bristol and i agree with some of the other answers, don't live anywhere like thorbury or bradley stoke or st pauls. the best and safest places are clifton, redland and the harbourside.
Although this all depends on whether you are renting or buying as if you are buying these places are some of the most expensive, but if renting i would reccommend redland as it is not too bad rent wise yet is in walking distance to basically everywhere you would want to go.

I'm not, but I hear St Paul's is rough. Steer clear of the really bad neighbourhoods there.
