They could make up any reason to get rid of a temporary worker if your pregnancy does not fit in with their plans.
It's not very ethical, and they may try and check with your doctor, but could you hang off telling them until maybe the week after you sign the contract.
Also, if there is a probationary period in your new job, they could find some reason not to keep you on at the end.
With all the stress lying brings on, it may be better to come clean now.

You would not be sacked for being pregnant but your temp status means your employment can be terminated - for no reason - at any time. Have you got the perm offer in writing? If not, then get it as soon as possible. Even in email, use an excuse that you want it for financial reasons. It will need to be from HR at your employer - not the agency you are working through. Seek some advice from the Citizens Advice Bureau, there will be one local to you.

A temp contract is just that - temporary so yes unfortunately. If you can, i would hold out until you are made permanent before volunteering the info. In the uk you do not legally have to tell an employer about your pregnancy until 15 weeks before your due date - although it is often helpful for them to know so that you may be allowed time off for antenatal appointments which have to be paid for by your employer.
this link will provide all the info you need
http://www.dti.gov.uk/employment/workandfamilies/index.html
Also you cannot be legally "sacked" for being pregnant - it is discrimination.

hey can sack you at any time on a temp contract, but if you think they are doing it because you are pregnant you can claim discrimination. Its not great because you effectively bring the fight to them after you have lost the jobs rather than they have to justify their letting you go. Keep your mouth shut, if you think they are going to let you go let it out about the baby.
Citizens Advice should know more (but might not) Their are also HSO Her magesties Stationary Office where employment laws are. Its a government thing so it hard to trawl through, but it is free and it is the law.....

By law, you can’t be. If you are, you can take your employers to the employers’ tribunal. Although some employers can be really clever and sack you for some other reason so you need to be aware of that. You can contact ACAS if you believe you are not being treated fairly and within the law and they can help you look into your claim.

Not sacked but your contract will not be extended. PT and Temp staff have exactly the same rights as FT time, it will depend on how good you are at your job and how much your Gaffer likes. Also depends on when you are due

you are not under obligation to tell your employer that you are pregnant unless it contravene some health and safety law. Just carry on until you get your permanent contract and tell them then. They can't sack you for being pregnant!!! (unless the boss is the father!!)

Keep quiet, tell em when your perm.... as long as you have worked for the company (as a FTE) for (I think) 20 weeks then you get all the benefits

..and I would tell them before you go perm, if I were you, otherwise you probably won't get any maternity leave and they'll probably sack you anyway citing a pre-existing condition...
