For flights that are longer than 5 hours, it is recommended. Much more room, service is better, etc.
For shorter than 5 hours flights, absolute waste of money.

In the US it is not worth the money, it is as miserable as in pig's class. Outside the US and on non-US airlines it's pretty cool: good food, comfortable seats which can be converted into a real bed. More like staying in a hotel room than in a plane.

You have room, comfort, good food; business class is the new first class lite.
Still, when its over, the plane lands in one piece so unless you have money to burn, go for the cheap seat and spend it elsewhere.
HAVE FUN

Much more comfortable seats, better food, lots of snacks and drinks, slippers and maybe even pajamas, and better blankets and pillows. Flight attendants check if you need anything frequently. However, save your money....it's only transportation. Spend the money at your destination and enjoy the sites.

I always wondered about that... if the plane goes down in the ocean, do you think the passengers in first class won't drown or be killed like everyone else?

The seats are bigger, you have more room. They are usually leather. You get more drinks and snacks.
