Why didn't it happen in the rest of Europe and the world?

Up until the Model-T was mass-produced by Ford, the steering wheel was located on either side of the dashboard depending on the make of car. (Sometimes in the middle). The rules of the road were a lot more liberal back then, because collisions between horse and buggies were a rare occurance if they happened at all.
As vehicle speed increased so did the accident rate. Eventually rules were established as to which side of the road to drive on. Essentially, because the wheel was on the left side, you had a better chance of steering clear of on-coming traffic by passing on the right, and people tend to steer towards the middle of the road, keeping their cars out of the ditches on what were nothing more than old buggy trails.
As this was happening here, so it was in Great Britain, Europe and the rest of the world. Communication wasn't the greatest between countries and driving habits for those areas eventually became laws for motorists.

Why do we drive on the rightside?
The English were one of the first established western societies, I mean well before America, and when they established what side of the road to drive on they weren't communicating in a worldly manner with other societies about which side to pick. It was a fifty/fifty choice, guess they just picked the other fifty procent from other societies

It's because of the old shipping rules. Ships must always pass each other starboard to starboard. (right to right). Therefore the UK drive on the left so they pass right to right. This then filtered to all countries under British rule. (Australia, Hong Kong, Sri Lanka etc).
I guess every one else drove on the right just to be different.

Good question because the car was invented in America, so it should be on the right side. I think it's too late to change now!
