Next weekend we are going to go on a road trip (my husband and I) and it is about a 7 hour drive each way and we are trying to find a good book on CD to listen to. We like suspense books and mysteries. We would prefer to stay away from the romance books and political books. Any suggestions?

I used to commute quite a distance to and from work, and to keep myself from submitting totally to road rage, I started listening to audiobooks. Let me say first off that not all books are good audiobooks...so even if you happen to be a huge fan of, say, Tarzan by Burroughs, it doesn't mean that it'll be a good audiobook (while Tarzan IS a great book, the audiobook I tried to listen to was awful).

Some FANTASTIC audiobooks include:

*Elizabeth Peter's Amelia Peabody series, especially those read by Barbara Rosenblat - the first one is called Crocodile on the Sandbank - it's a mystery series set in turn-of-the-century Victorian Egypt...Amelia Peabody the main character, and frankly, she's wonderful...these books are hard to do justice when describing, but I highly, highly recommend them.
*Dan Brown's Da Vinci Code and/or Angels & Demons are both good, but make sure you get the unabridged versions - the abridged versions really take a lot away from the stories and make them much less enjoyable
*Orson Scott Card's Ender's Game and Ender's Shadow are EXCELLENT audiobooks. They're definitely sci-fi, but they're accessible sci-fi.
*Steven King's Dark Tower series are very good as well...they're pretty trippy (especially the early ones), but very good
*JK Rowling's Harry Potter books are exceptionally well done audiobooks, too
*Lemony Snicket's Series of Unfortunate Events are really cute, but most likely not what you're after

Whatever you do pick, do yourself a favor and pick the unabridged version. After listening to dozens of audiobooks, I can honestly say that the unabridged version is better 90% of the time.

My other bit of advice is to check your audiobooks out from your local library. The things are pretty pricey, and it's a shame to spend a lot of money on something you wind up not liking. Borrowing the audiobooks from the library is a great way to try before you buy.

Have a lovely road trip, drive safe, and enjoy your audiobooks!

i'm really conscious of this--in truth i became compelled to take section even as i became an adolescent. My mothers and fathers fairly a lot wiped clean out my room and destroyed all my books, video clips and cds (even those they bought me) because some vacationing evangelist advised them to. To me, it is like the darkish a lengthy time period all throughout back. purely because Christians don't like something would not supply them the right to emphasise others to their standpoint. anybody has the alternative to settle for God or reject him, and the most a Christian could do is grant a good get mutually and pray. Burning books does not grant a good get mutually; it makes Christians seem uneducated and anti-psychological. properly, extra so than maximum already seem.
