Depression is a mood disorder, one that has fairly straight-forward, and often quite effective, treatments. I don't believe that nutritional deficiencies have been linked to it in any research, although they could certainly bring about general poor health, which can lead to depression in those prone to it.
No, I believe the causes are generally considered to be only chemical and/or psychological. The chemical problems can be triggered by psychology, though, and there you have a nasty cycle!
Aside from the fact that things like grief *look* like depression (I mean, if you were acting that way and your loved one *hadn't* just died, you'd be hospitalized!), I am not certain that there is anything properly named "depression" that is not "clinical depression."
What I mean is, if there's a train barreling down on you and your foot is stuck, it wouldn't be considered a disorder to be feeling anxious, hopeless and incapable of change. What people call "situational depression" is really just normal reactions to life.
(I don't think either "aisans" or "immergrents" have been linked to depression, either.)

I believe the way we take care of ourselves and the rest we get
has an affect on all that we do. Our mind needs rest to. We have to learn not to sweat the small stuff and not worry so much about the things we can not control.
Rest and diet make us all happier and healthier and we are more able to cope with the stress of everyday living!! diet and vitamin deficiencies also attribute to a lot of our depression!

You want a non-clinical cause of depression? How about working your @ss off 10-12 hours every day and your boss and coworkers still constantly giving you sh*t because they figure that they can? And your whole life becomes get up, go to work, go home, go to bed. That'll cause depression.
