When I say I believe in certain things people say I cannot because of my pollitial affiliation. I am finding that Labels make it harder for me to get my beliefs across and perhaps I should just be independent. I am sick of being told what I stand for when it is wrong. Perhaps if people are doing intollerant things in the party I am affilated with I should not call myself a certain party. I should just vote for the lesser for the lesser of the evils of the candidates. What do you think? What should I do about labels getting in the way of who I am and what I believe?

Never let the labels get in the way. I have worked on campaigns in the same election year for my Republican Congressman and my Democratic Senator because both are good people who represent their constituents well.

Follow your heart and your head about issues, never a party line. When everyone thinks for themselves, that's when politics works the best. ;-)

I totally understand, in the last elections I didn't want to vote for Bush or Kerry but everyone told me that if I had voted for anyone else I would just be doing Bush a favor. So I voted Kerry and look at where that got us, my vote was useless and pointless and I really didn't represent my beliefs. I say other people can have their opinions, but from now on I'm going to have my own too. We have the right to believe. Labels in my opinion are stupid because they allow others to be shocked that people have different beliefs... a waist of time and energy.

I agree with you very strongly. It is always the evil of two lessers and I can't remember the last time I voted FOR anyone, it is always against someone. Ignore the labels and vote for who you thnk will do less damage or for who the electable candidate who will do the least amount of damage.

I have been arguing for a strong third party for a long time.

Being American means you can vote whatever way you want, it's your right.

Vote your head and your heart!!! The right candidate is always the best choice no matter what the party. I used to think of myself as a democrat because that's the way my parents voted, after my first presidential election of voting a straight ticket and walking away feeling like I was some sort of programed robot I began to look at the candidates and what they said, never voted straight ticket again.
I hope you are able to "Kick" those labels out of your mind...

I wouldn't labels get in the way of how I vote.
I vote for candidates based on their integrity, (yes, there are some with integrity, believe it or not), and based on their voting records on issues.

If you need help researching this, go to www.votesmart.org or type vote smart in your search bar. This is a wonderful sight that will tell you how your candidates vote and also tells where they get the majority of their campaign and support money from. That will also show you which special interest groups are buying their votes.

I am an independent -- I do not agree with either the Democrats or the Republicans...on some issues. Do not let labels get in the way of who you are and what you believe in.

Good for you!! You are thinking for yourself and that is always a good thing. There are more people than you know that are registered Independent. And with the Far left taking over the Democrat Party and the Far Right taking over the Republican Party you will find more people with your mindset.

Forgo the labels and stick to your beliefs. There is nothing wrong with being a moderate.

Why do you need to be in a political party, couldn't you just settle for being altruistic. Works for me!
