This is a no brainer...The Hulk would crush The Thing.

Always the HULK!
In any match of strength, the Hulk Wins! I've read many issues that Hulk fought the Thing, and I've never seen the Thing win a match. Hulk gets stronger as he gets madder. So even if he loses for a while, he always comes back to win. Fueled by rage. You can't stop him. Hulk is the strongest character in the marvel universe.

The Hulk, though I'd be rooting against him, will always win that fight. The fact remains that the Hulk is a being driven purely by anger, while the Thing is an affable dude at heart. He'll be trying to protect people around him, he'll be worrying about losing, but the Hulk just doesn't give a sh*t. At all. Hulk in round 3.

When Nathaniel says that Hulk would "rip the tree out of Thing", I think he is thinking of DC's Swamp Thing. Both Hulk and Ben Grimm are stronger than the Swamp Thing, Alec Holland.
Having said that... Hulk is stronger than Ben Grimm. But Ben is smarter, most of the time. There was a time, back in the 80's, when Hulk was grey and smarter than usual; and Ben got juiced up with extra cosmic rays, so that Ben was stronger for a while, but they never fought during that time. No, I take that back.
They got into one scuffle, in Central Park. Ben made the mistake of thinking that since the Hulk was not as strong as he used to be, that he would have no trouble taking the Hulk. But Hulk was tricky, and fought dirty: he wrassled Ben into a pond and then tickled him so that he couldn't breathe!
Spider Man came by and saved Ben that time. Spidey had the Captain Universe power at the time, so he punched Hulk into orbit! (He also flew up and saved him, afterward, because he didn't want to be responsible for Hulk's death. But Hulk didn't even thank him!)
In the current story lines, I'm pretty sure that Hulk is stronger than Ben Grimm. Ben is a nicer guy, though. Check out the Marvel Directory. They have a section where everybody's strength level is listed, and you can look it up there and compare!

The Hulk because he's been out for a long time and the thing is just only rock so the Hulk can easily smash the thing.

The Hulk would win hands down.
He held up a 150 billion tonne mountain!!! By himself!!!
Provided Hulk got angry enough, the Thing wouldn't stand a chance.

Hulk has a higher degree of strength compared to the Thing. They were neck to neck for a while but I would say Hulk, because of his popularity.

hulk. Even though thing has more brains and might trick him into things the hulk will just smash him.
