Did something to change your appearance drastically and then walk through a store and expect other people to notice the difference when they don't even know you?

I just got glasses. I agree that I need them now. I walk through the grocery store and I realize that I am actually expecting these strangers to notice the difference in me. Once I realized it, I stopped but how incredibly strange!!

Yeah, that always happens to me. For instance I buy new clothes and completely change my look and then head to a shop and expect people to notice... and then I realise that no one knew what I was wearing before. It's the same when I get a hair cut. I feel reallt different but know one else knew what it was like before. I guess it's just the way that we see ourselves which influences the way we think society is percieving us.

I bet when you got glasses you were a bit nervous about how you looked, which is natural as they change a persons appearance quite a lot, but no one in the shops knew what you looked like without glasses. It's just your feelings towards wearing them that has been imprinted on the way you think others are reacting.

You belive strangers see you the way you see yourself. Only this is the first time they have seen you, so they can't possibly notice a change.

It's very weird, but happens all the time.

P.S - You've made me think about it now... It's going to be strange next time I get my hair cut and expect strangers to notice.

I once let my aunt die my hair for a class she was taking (she's learning to become a beautician). I normally have auburn hair and we went totally blond with it. A couple days later I walked up to my manager and he didn't know who I was 'til I started talking. Everyone at work didn't recognize me at first. I was having a great time with the new color. My dad even did a double take when he came to visit. If I ever get pulled over the cop will see my blond hair on my license picture- but it's not that color anymore.
I must admit- I felt a little ditsier with the blond hair!!!

Yea, you dont have to be anything for others to realize how cool of person you are, because i know you are a lovely lady.
You dont have to be anything other than what you are, you dont have to prove your identity to strangers by what you got to do or wear.

Sorry for the Dr. Phil like advice, but thats how i am sometimes,
I have to telll the truth when it needs to be said, and you are a lovely lady for sure :)

We are each the very center of our own little world. And everyone around us is the center of theirs. Don't even expect people you know well to notice every change you make. Considering ones own insignificance can be freeing in a way. Enjoy your improved vision!

Yes I have done that many times. Just with a change of my hair or other things I would think people would notice. I don't really think that is odd. When we change something about ourselves we think people will notice in a good or bad way.

No, I've never expected complete strangers to notice the difference, but acquaintances, yes.

It's funny you say that! I was going to answer with:

I just changed my avatar to a black man even though I'm white! does that blow your mind?

The funny thing is I was going to write that no matter what the question was.
Serendipity....
