No single cause has been found for ulcers. However, it is now clear that an ulcer is the end result of an imbalance between digestive fluids in the stomach and duodenum. Ulcers can be caused by:
*Infection with a type of bacteria called Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori)
*Use of painkillers called nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), such as aspirin, naproxen (Aleve, Anaprox, Naprosyn, and others), ibuprofen (Motrin, Advil, Midol, and others), and many others available by prescription. Even aspirin coated with a special substance can still cause ulcers.
*Excess acid production from gastrinomas, tumors of the acid producing cells of the stomach that increases acid output; seen in Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.

An ulcer in the stomach or duodenum happens when the acid secreted by the stomach goes beyond the natural protective mucus barrier, and starts acting against the own tissue.
In other words, it might happen by excess of acid production or by less production of the protective mucus.
Stress and lack of rest, smoking, consuming alcohol and illicit drugs are damaging the protective lawyer of mucus so that it is no necessary to have excessive acid - not the usual cause of ulcer- to have a nice whole in the stomach or duodenum.
The ingestion of some over the counter medication as aspirin, ibuprofen, and other prescribed medication can be aggressive by attacking the indemnity of the mucus barrier.
The bacteria Helicobacter piloris has been found several years ago in many patients who suffer recurrent ulcers. A combination of antibiotics and a therapy that allows the recovery of the mucus barrier allows the recovering.
The use of antacids such as bicarbonate is in fact stimulating the acid secretion through setting the Ph from the gastric acid too alkaline. Then through a hormonal mechanism, the stomach receives the input of producing even more acid than before.
For understanding this problem, just think about the meat you’ve eat and so good digested. Similar meat is a component from our muscles, including the stomach wall, and then you will find out that unless an isolation system would exist, we would eat our own stomach before starting with a meal.

Not sure daily intake is necessarily excessive. A glass of wine per day with your evening meal would surely be less harmful than a Saturday/Sunday night alcoholic daze each week!? To answer your question though - alcohol can add to stomach ulcers, but so can stress, the wrong foods, genetics and a whole bunch of other factors. Its the usual thing about most things in MODERATION not doing you much harm, I guess.

the new wisdom is that it is caused by a virus in your tum. It makes the whole thing become out of balance and the acid burns through the stomach lining. Not good.

lot's of things. worrying about everything seems to be the biggest problem. and the more you try not to worry the more you seem to actually do it.
you need to relax and try to destress. yoga, meditation, these things can help with that. even regular walking or reading a book can help to put your mind in a different state.
i hope that you're seeing a doctor and getting medical treatment as well. you need to do both to help get them under control if not heal them.
good luck

Stress, wrong eating habits, not eating when you're hungry, drinking too much carbonated soda, drinking alcoholic drinks on an empty stomach, pigging out then starving yourself, too much acidity in the stomach, fatigue.
