Yes, most of the other teams in the FIBA world championships have 1-3 superstar caliber players. The USA team has 12 superstar caliber players. The fact that they all play great defense is the deciding factor. Most superstar caliber players can't play defense, which gives the US a huge advantage.

Definitely. Playing as team this time around. Only way they lose is if they go completely cold and someone shoots lights out. But with that defense I have trouble believing anyone lights it up on them - Dirk sure couldn't do it and I don't see anyone from Greece doing it. That leaves with Gasol(Spain) or Ginobili(Argentina) in the final but I think they will shut them down.

In any case with a win in the Semis at least respect will have been restored to US Basketball and if they win the final they will be back on top.

still team USA is considered to be the favorites in the tournament.. considering they have the great batch of rookies in the 2003 draft such as king james, dwayne wade and melo... they have shown much improvement in this tournament especially carmelo...

but...

i still think Argentina will win this one... hehehehe knowing for a fact that they are the olympic champs, they have a great advantage when it comes to experience than team USA... they move the ball very well.. they are very familiar with each other.. and most of all, they play tough defense... although they will be facing spain at the semis and they only beat them once, i still believe that they can spoil spain's hope of winning the championship... they match up pretty well with each other but i believe manu ginobili has a match up advantage against la bomba navarro considering his height... scola and oberto can help each other in defending gasol... nocioni is their energy player and of the bench they have walter herrmann who can provide some spark for their team...

team usa has also a tough game against greece in the semis but i think they will win that game... i think team USA must be contented in settling for a runner's up trophy for this tournament...
hahahaha they should wait until manu and company will retire and stop playing for their national team and start rebuilding again... :-)

Considering that Former Yugoslavia is the current World Champion and Argentina the current Olympic Champion, I can't see why team USA should be considered favorite...

Anyway, Spain will win the Championship!!!!!!!!!!.

We will beat Argentina in the semis and then beat Greece or USA in the Final.

good enough, but their true test is the 2008 olympics. the challenge is if they can still play together as a team, where it is made of rising superstars.
