If the gas is getting to the oil then the piston rings must be faulty, you can find out for sure by doing a compression test at a garage.

Water will make the oil go a tan color but you would have noticed that the motor was runing bad if that was the case. take off the oil filler cap and look for gunge underneath, if its there then a water leleak is likely and this will probably mean a new head gasket

With creamy tan oil and the smell of gas, you have a major problem with the engine. Either you have a bad head gasket, a cracked head, or (in rare cases) a cracked block.

You do not say what make of truck, or size motor, so this will be a general answer. The odds are the head gasket is bad. You will need to pull the head(s) off and replace it. while the heads are off, send them to a machine shop to have them checked, to be sure that they are not warped or cracked.

If the engine has a lot of miles on it (145k or more), it may be a good idea to totally rebuild the engine, or to replace it.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but unless you do the work yourself, you are looking ar a rather expensive repair.

Gasoline will not turn the oil a "creamy tan color". Coolant will do that.

Most all old oil will have somewhat of a gasoline smell, the older the engine, the stronger the smell. Remember, gasoline and motor oil all come from the same "mama".

Check for water leaks.

br549 and the polish guy are correct, bad pistons rings won't let gasoline enter the oil pan, only coolant in the oil will turn it this color, sounds like the head gasket, check the radiator overflow bottle for signs of oil, this will confirm the bad head gasket, if all the oil was that creamy tan color, you got a really bad head gasket or a cracked engine block, good luck

If it's a mechanical engine mounted fuel-pump then it is possible that the diaphragm in the pump is shot. At the same though it may be that the rings are going out. I recommend checking the fuel pressure between the pump and carb. if it's low then the pump is the problem and it's not that darned expensive to replace.

You probably have 2 problems.. The engine is running excessively rich, washing the cylinders with fuel and dilluting the oil. You also have coolant getting into the crankcase as well possibly from head gasket leaks. Looks like engine rebuild time..

You've got problems. Sounds like you need to install new rings on your pistons to prevent the fuel from leaking back into your oil, and you need to find where your leaking coolant into your oil (most likely the head gasket). I see an engine rebuild in your future.

ch your radiator for oil too, u mite have a bad head gasket. a carb repair kit or a new fuel pump won't cost as much as a motor
