Learn proper breathing technique - from the "belly"
The best way to practice is to lie flat on your back and relax completely. Rest one hand just above your belly button, and you should feel your stomach rise, as your diaphragm expands to fill your lungs with air. Breathe in and practice filling your lungs from the bottom (belly) to the top- this helps increase your lung capacity - as does overall aerobic/cardiovascular fitness. Yoga practice uses the same breathing technique, and can help you learn to relax before a performance, so your nerves won't tighten your throat and make your voice crack.

Learn how to project your voice without forcing it. This is harder to describe in writing, and not having heard how you sing. For this it would be best to get a voice coach, or see if the music teacher(s) or even the speech therapist at your school might have some time to work with you after school. Not all speech therapists are comfortable working with this, so don't expect much, but it can't hurt to ask, and maybe she'll have some other resources for you.

To prevent head colds and other viruses, choose a healthy lifestyle: eat right, take a multivitamin and vitamin C, drink plenty of water and other non-carbonated, caffeine-free drinks, get plenty of sleep at night, and exercise regularly.

Regular hand washing is still the #1 way to keep from getting and spreading viruses, and try to keep your hands away from you face and mouth- even if you do wash them often and use a sanitizer gel. Also keep frequently touched surfaces, like computer keyboards and telephones, clean.

Shouting and screaming is a way to quickly damage your vocal cords - cheerleaders are notorious for vocal cord problems - so avoid doing that, too. And of course DON'T SMOKE! - it ruins your lungs and vocal cords among lots of other bad things.

Break a leg!

I was a manager of a singer years ago, and he used to use a product called "Throat coat"
Also if you feel a sore throat coming on you can use warm salt water and gargle with that and drink lots of herbal teas.
Good Luck on your career in music
