If it has a black and yellow abdomen and a white cephalothorax (small body section) that's probably an argiope spider or Garden Spider. They're harmless to people, but because they're pretty big, they're feared. They eat flies, grasshoppers, aphids & other pests, but also bees, wasps & even small frogs.

Argiope should be appreciated, not killed.

But, boric acid will take care of any spider problem you might encounter (ants & cockroaches, too).

I have just found a nest, in my garden, of what appears to be 100's of little yellow and black spiders newly hatched...Never seen them before in my life.... Being a bit worried (Yellow and Black is often natures warning sign) I have done a number of searches... After trawling the net it appears it maybe be a type of Argiope (black and yellow garden spider) however that is a US spider and I am living in the UK... Further searching suggests their is a 'Wasp Spider' which is found in Contienial Europe and sometimes the South Coast of England... Which is still a mystery as I live in the Midlands(England - UK) which is miles from the any coast let only the South Coast.... Should I be charging people to come and visit my Garden to see this rare site or is there another type of spider out here? They are not harmful to humans are they I trust??? - my mum is very anxiouis!!! Damon

It sounds like it may be a writing spider. They wont hurt you. Just leave it alone, unless its bothering you that bad. If you want it dead...Buy some kind of spray to spray on it..or knock it down and step on it. Also if it has a web, chances are if you destroy the web, it will move on to another location and make a new web. Hope this helps alittle, as I'm not sure what kind of spider it defiantly is.

Why do you have to "make it die"? Why can't you leave it alone? You don't even know what kind of spider it is so what's the problem? With any luck it'll bite you and "make you die".

You can make a spider die by taking off your shoe and using it as a swatter to smash the deadly beast.

You can make it die by hitting it very hard with a shovel or a blunt stick.

What kind of spider is it? If you do it right, it will be a dead spider.

Don't kill spidey! Just call the local arachnid squad and they'll take care of it. They will probably even take the time to educate you a bit on wildlife.
