Hi. Could someone clear up this age old doubt I have about the common cold being caused due to drinking cold fluids such as refrigerated water, icecream, milk or ice ? Can this cause cough ?

Also, can getting wet in the rain cause a cold ?

TIA.

Colds are caused by airborne viruses. One of the dirtiest things to touch is the handle on a shopping cart.

Drinking cold water rapidly could cause chest pains and eating ice cream can cause you to cough or get either an instant headache or head rush.

You can't get a cold from getting wet in the rain unless your immune system is already compromised. Rain does NOT cause colds.

No, cold drinks and cold foods do not cause colds. Germs cause colds. Cold foods and drinks can cause a cough if they start to go down the wrong pipe.
Getting wet in the rain is okay as long as you don't become too cold for too long.
I love walking in a warm summer's rain.

Drinking milk or ingesting any bovine dairy can cause a cough, simply because of the lactose, makes you phlegmy. Everything else is bunk. If you sit around in wet clothes in the cold and don't dry off, you can catch pneumonia. But just getting caught in the rain won't hurt you if you have a healthy immune system.

Dairy products can cause more phlem to build up, and therefore cause a cold to be more uncomfortable. If you get wet in the rain, and get a chill, yes, you could get a cold.

No. A cold is a virus, not something you get from being cold. However, if you are freezing/very cold, your body's immune system can weaken, causing you to be more likely to get colds.

Nonsense, only germs cause colds, you can't even catch a cold from another person, unless you are lip-locked.
