I have a colleague who tries to degrade me whenever I ask for his professional help. he criticizes my knowledge and treats me like an idiot, and if i protest to his behavior he denies his rudeness.

Kill them with Kindness.
When he says; You are so stupid. You so, "Yes, I am and that is why I came to you, the great oricle"

When he says; You are worthless slime. You say, "Thank you that is the nicest thing you've said to me today!"

When he denies his rudeness; You say, "GOTCHA SUCKER YOU'RE ON VIDEO !"

ignore them or try super kindness. When he is rude be extra nice and thank him for his every criticism.Praise him beyond limits and just be totally nice to him and when he makes a mistake or has even a small problem exaggerate it beyond limit and look sad and disappointed as if you expected only the very best from his side.In short praise him so much that he reaches the cloud seven and then let him crash down at the smallest pebble.BEST OF LUCK!!

Then do not change on your porch lights or beautify your position. Edit: leave a small backyard sprinkler operating on the direction in the front of the door. which could be a significant hint to flow away =p develop up, this is purely one nighttime a year, and this is especially for little childrens.

Don't ask for his help unless you absolutely have to - document his criticism and actions that you find degrading and speak privately with a supervisor.

Most of the people I know are like that too. I would say that you should find another source for information. If you cant then just don't take anything he says to heart. Just let it go and think to yourself that one day all that will come back to him and hit him hard.

Go up to him ad say "Hey ___ I could really use your expertise in..... no, nevermind, you'll just make me feel like an idiot for asking. I'll go ask someone else. Sorry for disturbing you" And smile politely and walk away
