Wow, talk about a blast from the past. It was literally a "pet rock". It was an interesting creation from the 70's where you actually bought a rock in a little box and you could buy accessories, etc., just like a regular pet. It was goofy but a lot of people bought one.

Pet rocks were all the rage in the 70's. I remember having one. It was a rock with little eyes and a face painted on, and was perfect for kids who's moms wouldn't let them have a dog or cat, etc.

Back in the 70s it was a marketing campaign or a fade if you want to call it that. They sold them in novelty shops and toy stores. It came in a box that looked like its home and it had rules and instructions for its care. I was a poor kid. I had to go out a catch my own pet rock because Mom would not buy me one. I named it Howard.

The easiest pet in the world. You don't have to do anything for it or with it. You can even forget about it for awhile. And best of all you can find one almost anywhere. Psst... they're free too.
