You're assuming that hell is under the surface of the earth, which it's not. Heaven and Hell are in separate dimensions from ours, which is why you can't get there until your soul is freed from it's physical form and able to move freely beyond the shroud. Earth is Purgatory.

Well, since we typically think of hell as being far beneath us, it would actually be quite hot because the center of the Earth is believed to be the hottest in the whole planet.

good question, but the core of the earth (below us) is hot molten magma. The general image is that hell is down there somewhere.
