Yes, it is fine to have sex while pregnant. Usually about six weeks after giving birth it is OK to have sex, but it all depends if you have a vaginal or a cesarean birth.

YES, it is 100 percent fine. There is no way the baby can get hurt, unless you tried positions that would twist your body to the point of hurting, pregnant or not.

The ONLY restriction is when you get close to the delivery date, say about 2 weeks or so. Some doctors claim, though there is no conclusive evidence either way, that protein in the semen can cause some reactions in the woman's body, which may stimulate the process of giving birth. But even then, most doctors agree that this would only happen when the baby is ready anyway (actually some doctors recommend having sex more frequently if the baby threatens to be a bit late).

As for having sex AFTER the birth, it is mostly only a matter of when the mother feels up to it. If there has been an episiotomy (small cut) or such then the area can feel sensitive and the mother may prefer to abstain. On the other hand the mother may feel impatient. My personal experience as a father of four children however, is that what really comes to play is that in the first few weeks the mother focuses most of her energy and emotions around the baby, and so is not really in the mood for sex, even if her body is fine.

Hope this helps

Yes it's fine, like everyone said! There are some exceptions, but your doctor will tell you if you need to worry about anything. Ask him as soon as possible if you notice any strange symptoms, especially if she bleeds after sex or has some intermittent bleeding in the pregnancy. But for a normal, low-risk pregnancy there's no reason not to have sex.

As for positions: From 4 months onwards it is no longer a good idea for a pregnant woman to spend too much time lying flat on her back, as the weight of her uterus may reduce blood flow from the major artery down her spine to the baby. It also becomes pretty uncomfortable to be flat on her back! So you may have to adjust your positions if you usually use missionary style. She can be on top, or any position that doesn't require her to lie flat on her back is fine.

Some drs will actually recommend frequent sex close to the delivery date, as there is a theory that it will bring on labour. In that case, use a condom, because like someone else mentioned it is possible for bacteria to actually reach the uterus via the dilating cervix.

As for having sex after birth, I'd say when the woman feels ready. Some people wait 3 or more months, others feel ready before the 6 weeks checkup already. But it's safer to get the dr's OK before you start having sex again (i.e. ask at the 6 week checkup if everything's fine). If there was a tear or cut that hasn't healed 100%, she could end up in great pain!

I just had a baby. Sex is fine right up until you deliver. The semen can help put you into labor. It has the same effect as being induced but not quite as potent. People will try to tell you you could infect the baby if you have sex after dialation starts. That is not true! The baby is in a bag of water that is protecting him/her. Also, you can resume sex 6 weeks after birth. Although we didn't wait quite that long. Just depends on birth experience. Did she have an episiotomy or not. If so you'd pry have to wait the whole 6 weeks. Good luck!!

Sex is actually healthy during pregnancy---as long the doctor hasn't said no to which can happen in some cases----the postpartem check is usually 4-6 weeks after giving birth, but I would go ahead and wait the full 6 weeks....the vagina will still be somewhat numb after 4 weeks. Anyways, I for got to tell you why sex is healthy during pregnany: it massages the perinium and makes labor and delivery easier and sometimes faster. It also decreases the chances of tearing or needing an episiotomy(or it decreases the size of one). I would reccommend using a condom to prevent infections, though.

Sex during pregnancy is fine. You just have to be careful of the woman's comfort. You can start having sex again about 6 weeks after the baby is born.

The doctor will tell you all this.
Sex is safe during pregancy until the last month(due date) unless there are some complications. Usually a women is allowed to have sex after her 6 week check up. Again this will depend on if there have been problems.

Yes, sex is okay while pregnant. Your partner should be able to tell you as well that sex is still comfortable for her. I was still at it until 7.5 months. lol!

As for sex after birth, with normal delivery, it's 6 weeks waiting time. C-section is at least 8 weeks until the scar has healed.
