Recently I finished reading the Outlander series for about the 10th time. I need something new to read. I know after reading this series I will probably be disappointed by whatever I read next, I don't think anything can come close to this series. I have already read Sharon Kay Penman and her works are enjoyable. Any suggestions?

That is so weird that you would say that Stufetta. I was just reading that series and I am currently on the last book. I have a 5 day weekend coming up and I know I will finish this series before the weekend is over. Thanks though!

Have you read "Lord John and the Private Matter" yet? It was pretty good, but definitely no "Jamie & Claire" book. Nothing can really compare with the Outlander series, but I have also enjoyed books by Tracey Chevalier (Girl with a Pearl Earring, The Lady and the Unicorn, etc.).

The next Lord John book is said to be due out later this year or early 2007. So, if you can hang on 'til then... : )

i liked diana gabaldon's stories, didn't make it as far as outlander though so i hope i'm talking about the same stuff .....

if you liked the style of her stories and the scope, ie one woman's story against the backdrop of a turning point in history type thing, you might just love the Earth's Children series by Jean M Auel. the first one's called The Clan of the Cave Bear, then Valley of Horses, then The Mammoth Hunters, The Plains of Passage, and so far the fifth book is The Shelters of Stone (i think).

I think they're fantastic and the same kind of style as gabaldon's books, by which i mean they're focused on 1 person but within a historical context.

Yeah...thats a toughie. After reading Gabaldon, I didn't want to read anything else and I LOVE to read.

Not sure if you are into the story of Phantom of the Opera but there is a book out there called Phantom by Susan Kay. Its about the life of the Phantom before he came to the opera. It was seriously one of the best reads of my life.
Try it even if you dont like the story....you might enjoy it.

It really depends what your favourite type of literature is. I like Kathy Reichs, she is awesome. Clive Cussler, adventure type. Nora Roberts/J.D. Robb, girl stuff, with a bit of passion. Robert Ludlum creation, The Covert One novels (other people are writing those now, Mr Ludlum passed away some time ago) and of course if you want something fun to read, Harry Potter.
