I have a serious blues collection. Here's some of the artists you should look up on amazon or Limewire: Bobby Bland, Jimmy Reed, Elmore James, Albert King, Little Walter, Otis Rush, Buddy Guy, Muddy Waters, B.B.King, John Lee Hooker, Johnnie Taylor, Etta James, Howlin Wolf, Big Joe Turner, Chuck Willis, Junior Parker,Sonny Boy Williamson, Big Mama Thornton, Ray Charles, Johnny Otis,Clarence Gatemouth Brown. These will get you started.

I have to say this, but "modern" blues is nothing less than PIG IN A CAN on Fedora Records. They have two albums out as far as I can tell, and they are the ultimate mix between what old classic "delta" blues and new (yet uncommercial) production.

Best old school blues:
John Lee Hooker
Harmonica Slim
T-Model Ford

If I was at home I could just pull names out of my blues section but I am at work, so I can't think of anymore right now.

Sorry!

Red House by Jimi Hendrix, Catfish Blues by B.B. King, Roadhouse Blues by the Doors,
Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters, Greg Allman, Eric Clapton, and Buddy Guy sing alot of other good blues songs.

There was a blue singer by the name of Robert Johnson whom supposely made a pact with the devil, he has some good down home blues and Louis Jordan is another one. I'm sure if you goggle search you will find more information on them

I would go with Robert Johnson too. He was the master, he was said to have sold his soul to the devil to get his guitar skills. His Gibson guitar was on auction recently and guys like Clapton were bidding over a million for it.
