Not oils... Need to wait months for them to dry.... Acrylics work fine. There are all kind of things to mix with paint to make sculptured looks, iridescent gloss and grainy designs.. Go to Hobby lobby and look around at everything in the Acrylic section. You will need several size brushes. Keep in mind acrylics dry very fast so get a medium to mix for longer use. Hope this helps.

I'd use acrylic paints, they dry fast so you mix in some 'retardant' to slow it down. Oil is a pain because it takes at least 6 months to dry and cure, then you have to varnish it. It stinks until the varnish is cured.
Studio Sytem 3 brand paints are ok and not too expensive, plus available in a wide range of colours including neon and metallic. You can get different textur materials to mix including thickener in but most people just use sand, plaster or stuff like that.
You can get acrylic flat brushes from The Works and they're not expensive, just remember to soak and rinse them before the first use, and never let the paint dry on them.

i love all that kind of stuff. get some gold leaf u can add to ur pic. also another way to funk it up is get a box of tissues and seperate them so u have 2 ply thin. then either sploge with paint and make ur own design so that there are raised bits or make it look wrinkly but in an odd shape. another trick i use is nail varnish!!! get some cool colours,no point in buying expensive ones, get all colours from tirquoise to deep red to the ones that have a clear shine with glitter in them. Pour from a hight(best yesting this on blank paper so u know what it will look like) and let it drop and pour in difrrent thicknesses, then add another few poured colours, take the board and turn it up so the colours blen and mix. Its a wicked idea, original and best of all,no one else will have it!!! Have fun. Remember,u can add drops of glue in places and buy some glitter to sprinkle on. xxxxxxxxxxx

Lay on paint with a knife instead of a brush to get a 3D textured effect

if you use acrylics you can get additives called mediums which will give a thicker consistancy to the paint. you can use this to build up and give dimension to your art work.
