It's a great movie. Rod Taylor was in top form and at the peak of his career. I especially like the "Spinning tops" on the table which I suppose are the forerunners of our DVDs. A very creative touch. The Morlochs are classic movie monsters. The remake was a big disappointment with the exception of Alan Young reprising his role from the original movie as Welles's old friend. I couldn't see Samantha Mumba as a leading lady and love interest in the remake. No looks or sex appeal. Yvette Mimieux was perfect in the original as Weena. She was so cute and petite. The original is a classic that deserves cult status. One of the best sci-fi movies ever made.

Great movie! If time travel were possible, I'd want to go far into the future to see what man has become, like he did. I think that would be the ultimate adventure. As for the movie, one amusing part was Rod taylor watching the clothes dummy across the street going thru the rapid changes. One of the messages sent in this movie(and the book) is that if we don't change our ways, mans future could become very clouded and foreboding. I simply loved this movie ,
Anyway, that's my thoughts!

Hi reichman. Nice question. I the two lead actors were perfect for their parts and had a great chemistry together. He was handsome and she was almost other-worldly. The look of the Eloi was good. They floated around like angels. The Morlochs were very convincing. And the whole thing with the sirens was perfect, very eerie. The movie really captured the spirit of the original novel. So I would be with you in giving this movie two thumbs up. It is part of a small list of great SciFi movies. Another one would be Forbidden Planet, don't you think?

I own the DVD and think of it as a classic. I always like the subject of time travel and when I view the movie, it gets me back into it.
The remake didn't impress me as it was just a re-hash with updated special effects. The destruction of the moon was interesting but I feel that the subject of our own destruction due to nuclear war is more apt.

It's a classic. I have it on video. I recently bought it on clearance from Blockbuster. I grew up on that movie.
I did always, however, find it strange that Weena would bother screaming when she fell in the river when they weren't supposed to feel anything. Of course, they were probably just suppressed feelings that were buried deep inside and came out in the extreme danger. The real clincher was why on earth did we later hear them laughing on the way to dinner? they sounded HAPPY!

I love that movie, especially when the books turn to dust.
Which 3 books would you take with you? I never decided that, in all the years I've been watching that movie.
