I bought Final Fantasy XI (Inc. Chains of Promathiand Rise of the Zilart Expansion Packs) for the PC from Amazon.co.uk because it said game and expansion packs etc - but then I read that I have to pay around £10 a month to play the game.
Is this true? They didn't tell me this on Amazon.co.uk.

Yes Final Fantasy XI is an online only game. It's a massively multiplayer online role playing game MMORPG.
They will charge monthly to play. The game however, will constantly be upgraded and changed, which is why you continue to pay. If you want to try an MMORPG, visit www.worldofwarcraft.com. Final Fantasy XI is a bit outdated.

Most MMORPGs will charge you a monthly charge (a subscription fee) to play. The only one that you can buy in stores that doens't have a monthly charge is Guild Wars.
Trust me when I say that if you are a normal game buyer and you get pulled into an MMORPG your game costs tend to go down because instead of buy a new game every 2-3 months for 50 USD you are spening 13 USD on the same game over and over again each month.

not a "marketing ploy" it shud be rather obvious in most cases being its an MMO, most MMO charge monthly, so they may be updated with new fun content, also just because FFXI is older doesnt mean its less of an experience then WoW, its all in preference, WoW can be done solo and takes less time to lvl to max and offers some great team based stuff as well, FFXI is very team based levels 10+ and will takes awhile to hit cap tho having much more end game content, and both are a bit of a drag at low levels, having played both ~_~ i know this! its all what ur into and how much time ur willing to put in, along with if ur willing to pay the monthly fee , an MMO where u dont have to pay monthly tho would be Guild Wars, if ud wanna try that out

Yes online only. Even if you didn't buy the expension packs before hand FF XI is an online game.

Yes it is true, but dont bother the game is utter garbage. Get WoW there isnt an online game to touch it, or guildwars if you dont feel like paying.
