Do all accountants enter a public firm after graduation? In order to become a CPA do you need to work at a public firm? How about a corporate firm?

Nope, graduated and went into private practice.
You don't need to work for a public firm, you need to pass the state exam to get certified.
Corporate jobs are nice ...if you don't mind waiting for the dinosours to croak before you can be promoted!

After graduating from an Accounting degree, you need to get a license in order to function as one. Pass the STATE BOARD exams or the CPA Licensure Exams. Then from there, choose your career. The options are endless (quite), but working in an AUDIT FIRM (e.g. PWC, EY or KPMG) is really rewarding. It gives you a preview of what road you're going to take from there.

Either you may pursue a career in PUBLIC ACCOUNTING (either in a firm or going solo) or perhaps you would rather enjoy being employed in a corporation as a comptroller, an internal auditor, an info systems specialist, etc. ANother field which might interest you is GOVERNMENT ACCOUNTING or being employed in IRS or you Treasury or Audit Department.

So the choice is yours. Enjoy accounting!

P.S. YOu cannot go into PUBLIC AUDIT lest you pass the STATE BOARD. You need a license.

Don't personally know. But I do know that Deloitte is a great accounting firm. Google search them for more info. Friend had to do an internship there, then got her CPA, now makes a ton of money, however, does some work from home, and drives around a lot. Good Luck!

I once knew an accountant who could work three at one time. Those accountants may seem quiet, but get them in the bedroom and watch out.
