If you are driving around on any tag that is no longer valid, the short answer is yes you can get a ticket. The good news is that in most jurisdictions the fine is so menial for such a violation that if you just treat the cop with a modicum of respect most will just let you go with a warning. The bottom line is that if you are driving a vehicle on the roadway, it is your responsibility to make sure that all the papers are up to date and that it has valid tags. The very simple resolution is that you just don't drive it until all is in order. If you bought the vehicle from a car lot, it is the law that they are supposed to send you down the road with EVERYTHING you need to go right to the dmv and get your tags on the spot. This obsolves them of all responsibility and it is the law. If you don't have this stuff you need to ride them hard until you get what you need.Where I live, if you don't have the title in hand, when you leave the lot, that sale is ILLEGAL, and IF this lot has a business license he knows this. Get on the phone with him and let him know that if you don not get the paperwork that you need, you're bringing the car back.

Pretty much depends on the cop that pulls you over. But I would be a little ticked off to! Texas must be like Pa & take FOREVER to process & send out registration stuff!
Until you get yer' tags/registration stuff.. just be sure not to speed, run lights ... ect.
Good Luck & God Bless

IF your registration and plates are expired, you can get pulled over. You must have a copy of your registration though. If he runs the plates and they come up as unregitered he may tow you becasue it can;t be on the road.

You can go back to the dealer and get another temp tag. I doubt a cop would ticket you for it, though.

Contact the nearest office of the Texas Department of Public Safety-Driver Licensing Division IMMEDIATELY!!!(check your phone book for the office location)...
That dealership(and the sales associate you dealt with) will face serious penalties...
Just be careful while you're driving...
HTH...

If it's normal in your state for tags to come late, he'll let you go.
