That is a term for women who DO NOT work and stay at home.
We call men who do the same househusbands.

Because they're married (wife) and they don't work (house). They stay home and take care of the kids and the house.

I think the politically correct term now is "home maker" or "stay at home mom." I don't normally try to be politically correct, so I refer to these women as "housewives." When I hear or use that word, my first though is Lucille Ball. :) When I hear "homemaker" or "stay at home mom", I immediately think of some woman who shuffles her kids off to school, then spends all day driving around getting a manicure and pedicure, watching soap operas, having coffee and gossiping with her neighbors, etc. I know that's not the case in most circumstances (housewives work very, very hard for the most part--probably harder than women who have jobs out in the workforce) but these are the images that these terms conjure up for me.

Some women call women housewives, but some men call women that because they are narrow minded, and thats coming from someone who is a man....

It is NOT men who call women housewives, it is a name tagged on them by society. They are, after all, wifes, and their primary duty, at least when the term was coined, was to take care of domestic matters in the household.

Cute.
Men don't call women housewives. This is a word to describe wives that stay at home. get it home=house+wife.

You're scratching one tip of an iceberg. Most of them also have workwives, travelwives, partywives and stuff, so they just want to differentiate.
