I have an Intel Pro 100 M Mobile Adapter-that I believe is ethernet. When I do ipconfig in DOS it says Ethernet Adapter Local Area Network 2.

You mean your apartment complex provides your internet connection? You dont connect through a phone line or cable? You connect through your ethernet port. If so, anyone on the network can easily see everything you do! Or do you have a wireless laptop or desktop connected to your internet via a wireless router?

You may never know. You can scan you firewall log files and yo will see a lot of stuff, but it needs to be interpreted. A lot of the traffic is normal. I would run the free Zone Alarm firewall, make sure "File and Print sharing" is turned off, unshare any shared folders and run an everyday brand of anti virus software and anti spy software. Allow these applications access to the Internet through the firewall and allow them to update automatically. Now just relax. There is no sure fire method to keep a pro out. The above will solve most all of your intrusion problems. Your biggest privacy threat probably comes from trojans in attachments or "free" programs such as screen savers or "free" anti spy program offers that pop up. The "AdAware Personal" application works well and is a safe free one, as is the Mocrosoft "Defender" application. Oh yes, also use you pop up blocker in Internet Explorer.
Good Luck

in worry-free words someone who knows the operating gadget interior & out and has knowledge of networking and hacking concepts can locate out. Even then, there is not any make certain that that man or woman ought to locate something because there are such an excellent number of places to seem. also, the hacker would have taken income of a secure practices flaw on your software/operating gadget and left no hint of himself. Anti-undercover agent or anti-virus software would locate something, yet you won't be able to tell if the malicious software surely got here as a effect out of your objective conversations or from elsewhere.

Ethernet means faster computer speed. All computers have them built in now. Unless you are or on a computer hub-----Like when we lived on college campus and got free online services from the collage--------You are not going to be effected if you privately pay for Internet services you are probably not on a hub

hi, there are many site with virus that can hack your IE browser, i recommand you to use firefox with Google toolbar. firefox can disable all virus to run, because the virus can only run on IE.
besides, firefox can block any any poppus and disable any virus and adware, spyware on webpage, so, firefox is much safer than IE. as you know, most of the virus is spread throught internet and webpage.
firefox is much smaller than IE, so i run faster than IE.
