Added info: the healthier eating due to being pregnant is resulting in the weight loss - it's not intentional dieting.

Dieting during pregnancy is dangerous. If you improve your eating habits by leaving off the simple carbs and eating healthier, you should be fine. You may gain 15-20 pounds and that's fine as long as you are eating healthy. Just focus on healthy foods. If you ate a lot of junk food or fast food before and you stop, you may be able to give the baby what it needs without adding excess weight. I would recommend that you eat small healthy meals throughout the day. Take a good prenatal vitamin and avoid sugar and refined foods. Good Luck!

I'm about 50 lbs overweight too. My doctor said just to eat right and try not to gain more than 15-20 lbs over all. So my main goal was to not put on any more weight than neccisary. I'm about 14 weeks now and I've only gained 2 lbs overall. That is eating as well as I can, since the nausea has gone away. I know some heavy girls who have said that they lost weight during pregnancy just from eating better. If you are like me, any really healthy eating plan is going to make you drop a few pounds, usually just from water intake alone. So I wouldn't worry if you are losing weight, talk to your doctor of course, but as long as it's not significant amounts, I think it's probably normal.

Due to extreme "morning sickness" 24/7 for most of my pregnancy, I lost about 20 lbs in the first 3 mos. I only gained 18 lbs for the rest of it. My daughter was a healthy 8 lb 9 oz 19 1/2" infant.
That said, since your weight loss is a result of healthier eating, I can't imagine it being a bad thing. I would double check with your ob/gyn to be certain though.

Have a happy pregnancy. :o)

No, you should not go ona crash diet or deliberately eat less (less than 1500 calories a day) to lose weight while pregnant.

I suggest you modify your eating habits instead. Eat a lot of fruit and vegetables. Limit cakes and ice cream to once every 2 weeks (like a reward of some sort), avoid sodas and all kinds of junk food. Thinking about your baby's health should give you enough reason to be motivated to eat right.

To loose weight during pregnancy-------go a head if you want to be yelled at by your doctor.............I lost weight 50 pounds during my first pregnancy......because I was sick not because I was dieting -----------the doc was too stupid to realized that until I was 7 1/2 months along. I was little in the first place and couldn't stand to loose 50 pounds.

Your child might suffer the effects of you loosing weight.....my son did. My son was the smallest of my kids------his sisters were alot bigger.(when I wasn't sick)

No, pregnancy is not a good time for weight loss. Just wait until the baby is born and then go on a diet.

If you're losing weight due to healthier eating, just make sure you drink LOTS of water. Toxins are stored in our fat, so when your body starts breaking down that extra fat, the toxins are released with it. Drinking extra water to flush everything out should make it ok, presuming your weight loss is a reasonable loss of a pound a week or less.
