Do you want a mystical or a real answer?
1. Young jackdaws get "married" at this time of the year, although they won't mate till next spring. They look for nest sites and go through a ritual nestbuilding, all not very seriously. Your chimney was probably a chosen site and one of them fell for it.
2. Jackdaws, as all birds of the raven family, are wise and magical. Stay away from that kind of thing for at least till after the next full moon, or you'll end up an eejit like that poor jackdaw

It means your chimney pot has fallen off. It may also mean you have a jackdaw's nest in or on top of the chimney. Have the chimney cleaned and checked to make sure you don't end up with roast jackdaw the next time you light a fire...burning feathers don't make good room freshener.

1. The jackdaw is a mixture of good and bad; one of them perching on a building is a sign of misfortune, but if a whole group does so then both an addition to the family and an increase in its financial wealth are signified.

2. One flying down the chimney means death is coming to the house.
