Memoirs of a Geisha both moved and impressed me....at the time i didnt know that it was a fictional tale...it wasnt until the very end that i got to know that so it was written remarkably well but also to see inside a sub culture that has been closed to the rest of the world for centuries...it felt like id gone back in time and i was there.

Not really because soon after I got hold of the book by the original geisha (the one Golden fictionalized the story from). Try 'Geisha of Gion' by Mineko Iwasaki. You WILL be impressed.

. The delicacy of the language. The author was able to understand the depth and poignancy of his female character who reveals the story. Obviosly the author was well researched in this hidden life of geisha, therefore it was a pleasure to discover this world through his beautiful prose.

Not much...
I found interesting reading about 19th - early 20th centuries life in Japan and furthermore, learning about the myth of the "Gheisha" but it did not impress me particularly...

it definitely impressed me but i watched the movie 1st b4 reading so... i like the fact that women in that day and age feel proud of what they had to work for. they're not forced to be 1 yet... they were strong.

Didn't read the book, but the movie is a masterpiece. It's REALLY the way it is. Sad.
