absolutely not! I watched my mother do it that way and always thought to myself "I won't do it that way." Oh how things change. I realized that stretching and opening the mouth makes it way easier not to get mascara where I don't want it. Mom was brilliant! lol...Hubby thinks I'm retarded for it though...

Very good question, I was actually watched by a lady at work while I put my eye make up on. She couldnt believe it as I had my mouth shut the whole time! It comes from having it drummed into me by my Mum to keep my mouth shut!

I think i'm the only girl who can do eye make-up with her mouth shut without thinking about it!
I don't know why women have to have there mouths hanging open whilst doing there make-up

the movement of the head back makes it natural to open our mouths. if it is hard to keep it shut it is only because you have to think about it. Some people may also find it impossible depending on their neck muscles and how far back they tilt their head.

seeing as applying mascara and eyeliner takes a lot of concentration and control, it would be hard to think about my mouth as well.

Haha, it IS entirely possible as I sometimes catch myself open-mouthed while putting on mascara, and I force my mouth shut. It's a whole new experience... weird...

I did train myself when I was a teenager (I thought that I was a weirdo!) Now I can do it both ways, but if I'm doing anything different or difficult with my make-up like eye liner etc I have to open my mouth!! Its so strange, why do we all do it?

Suspect that this is something to do with the mouth stretching the facial skin to make application easier ..

Or maybe its just the same thing as men not being able to do anything mechanical without sticking their tongue out :)

It's to do with the part of the brain we use for delicate and precise work. Ever noticed how we stick out our tongues when concentrating on such work? Like threading a needle, for instance? It's the same mechanism in action.
