All of those things, assuming that they have happened and are not falsified, can hurt a country's image.

But the worst thing that hurts an image is when natives of the country do the bashing.

If everyone who uses this media had to post their country before they blasted away at another country, or the leader of another country, 98% of that bashed-country's readers would jump all over the basher in the defense of their country.

Maybe that would be the best way to conduct this media, have a little corner of the answer-display show the country that the person doing the bashing is from. Then the rest of us would know who is doing the talking.

Look, in general none of those things really matter when an individual judges a country. Rampant corruption, poverty and human rights violations are taken in stride- they don't really "matter".

But when they toss a monkeywrench into global machineries which are trying to better the world, merely because of domestic policies, that's when they tick me off. Hah, a campaign against AIDS that preaches... Abstinence- and doesn't mention condoms at all. Not signing the Kyoto agreement. Totally ignores the UN, when it is of no use to them, and has even succeeded in convincing the american people that the UN is a useless governmental body riddled with corruption (I suspect the government of USA has more corruption than the UN many times over)... I could go on.

with social service programs such as NASA, social security, Medicare, etc. where the government pays using taxpayer dollars...I'd hardly call this country capitalistic.

It's Mercantilism or Socialism.

Definitely not capitalistic.

What others think? That we've strayed so far from our ideals. We're like a drunk and dirty celeb. Still better than the rest of the little people, but what the hell happened just the same.

Much fewer gun control laws would get rid of half the problems. Getting rid of the income tax would get rid of the other half.

The USA is one of the most disliked countries in the world.Reason being is they feel that they are better than any other country. If you want to go to another country in most case you don't need a visa. But other people coming from most other countries to here are required a visa. The other reason is the USA is going into all other countries and tell them how to run there country. So what does that make the USA another Hitler or just big brother of the world

We are greedy lazy jerks and we can't understand why other countries don't like us.
However....I'm not sure why having illegal immigrants makes us look bad..means other people want to come here bad enough to sneak in so THEY must like us. There are trashy people of every color in every country so we aren't unique there. As far as low salaries goes, then why do all our jobs get outsourced to other countries who work for less money, leaving our citizens without jobs? There are gangs in other countries. And I know people in the Army and they don't kill babies.

Obesity??? Mr illegal immigrant, you should get your priorites right, and should you be happen to be illegally in the US, why don't you consider a country with a better image. Apart from that, most people I talk to consider the USA a country gouverned by ignorant greedy bullies.

With whatever you have written it is a very bad image indeed. But whenever we make decisions we should also look at the GOOD points , Only then we can have a balanced view! There is always good and bad in all countries, It depends on how we look at it. Everyone looks from their own perspective and attitude.

well a bad one. Do you think most Americans are sitting around patting themselves on the f****** back over what's been going on? How much influence do you carry in your f***** country? We don't need a wake up call, a**hole. We know what's going on and most of us aren't proud of it.

Sorry but I'm tired of people saying the people of this country are at fault. Right thinking Americans are ashamed of what has been happening in our name. Nevertheless, I doubt any other country would wield the torch of justice any more evenly or fairly, either.

There is one country on this planet that treats all its citizens equally, is peaceful with all its neighbors, cleans up its garbage, and wants the whole world to be a better place: its called Fantasyland.

Out of curiosity...

The author of this threads nickname is "Illegal imigrant and proud to be "

Why "illegal"... if you think so little of the US are you here?

I guess it *is* possible that you are actually an American and living illegally in Mexico... If so, stay there, please.

Almost comical that nobody noticed that. Most of you were more interested in taking the opportunity to bash the US.

And I haven't even had my morning coffee yet!!

Yeah, I take this thread seriously, honest.

We're talking mainly about the government: Ignorant, arrogant, fundamentalist, human-rights abuser
The people: misled, ignorant, chauvinistic, they have inflated ideas of their own importance and they probably don't know exactly where 'their boys' are fighting at the moment, or where, or care. But they don't want to give up their gas-guzzling vehicles, or worry about the environment.
