Because they already made mistakes, and these are really people that know what it takes to get a life, but they had not courage or opportunity to get one for themselves.

People like that usually suffer from self-esteem issues so they feel better at the expense of the person they are putting down.

There's a saying, "practice what you preach" and they don't.They pick on other people because they see faults in them that they have themselves. (Like correcting other's spelling)
