All transmissions these days are less than favorable in my opinion. They have serious design flaws. So, no matter what truck you buy, don't be surprised if you have tranny problems. The engines are fine. The biggest problem I've seen is the sensors that go out thanks to the introduction of computer systems. (cam sensor mostly) And the rotary micro switch array they use on the accelerator pedal. It tells the computer how far down your foot is on the throttle. It gets dust in it and sometimes fails. Quick fix is to pump the pedal back and forth about 100 times when it starts acting up, usually when you just depress throttle slightly like when taking off, but do this when the vehicle is turned off so you don't confuse the computer. It will wipe the dirt away from the switch's buttons inside. Really a crappy design. Just cheap crap these days. Thank the engineers. They are truly morons. Good luck. My recommendation is an old chevy with a 6.2 deisel. No electronics. Only possible failure is the fuel injection distribution system if you don't keep the filter changed or the fuel pump.

you ought to not favor to get rid of something to regulate a serpentine (fan) belt from any truck. the recent vechicles have a tensioner pully that you'll be able to positioned a socket or wrench on to releave the stress and unfasten then belt for eliminating and alternative.
