hi, as your a beginner, i reccomend, removing anything from the startup bit under programs. then buying a magazine cover disk, with a free virus thing on, and running that.
step 2 for a beginner, is ctrl - alt - del
start ending processes, and hoping you can get the machine to a state, where you can run the antivirus
step 3, get a magazine disk, with spybpt adaware and cwshredder on - run them
step 4 registry, 2 of the main keys, have initial startup values
its microsoft/windows/current version/run
something like that.. look it up, most crap runs out of these 2 places, but taking a persons advice on answers, about editing your registry - you would have to be mad.. so just go look it up..

You don't say if it is an online scan site or not. Try going to this site to run the online scan. The virus might stop you from doing this. Because you cannot run an AV program and find the name of the infection makes it difficult to remove. He might have to bite the bullet and Reformat the computer to get rid of this infection. Then tell him to stop download illegal music and movies.
Tell him to try this site.

hi,perhaps you can try Norton to remove the virus. but you need to pay for the software.
i also recommand you to use firefox with Google toolbar. firefox can disable all virus to run, because the virus can only run on IE.
besides, firefox can block any any poppus and disable any virus and adware, spyware on webpage, so, firefox is much safer than IE. as you know, most of the virus is spread throught internet and webpage.
firefox is much smaller than IE, so i run faster than IE.
download firefox for free:

try system restore first
1.Log on to Windows as Administrator.
2.Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click System Restore. System Restore starts.
3.On the Welcome to System Restore page, click Restore my computer to an earlier time (if it is not already selected), and then click Next.
4.On the Select a Restore Point page, click the most recent system checkpoint in the On this list, click a restore point list, and then click Next. A System Restore message may appear that lists configuration changes that System Restore will make. Click OK.
5.On the Confirm Restore Point Selection page, click Next. System Restore restores the previous Windows XP configuration, and then restarts the computer.
6.Log on to the computer as Administrator. The System Restore Restoration Complete page appears.
7.Click OK.

Take the hard drive out of your freinds machine,,,set the jumper pin to slave,,,and install temporarily as a slave on your computer,,,then use your computers antivirus frogram to scan for Trojans and Viruses,,after killing the virus,,,just move the jumper on his hard drive back to the master position,,,and re-install on his Machine.
If you cant do this,,,just bring it into your local computer repair shop and have them clean the Virus's out of it,,should only cost about $35 or less.

Check your virus software disc and instructions.
Often the CD will allow you to boot from it and run a virus scan without loading your system .. this will be the quickest way to kill it off.

delete all your temporary internet files and any files you downloaded from the internet.
and do a search for new .exe since the day before it occured
if you find any and they are not part of an installed program delete them.

1) unplug from the internet.
2) try cleaning this crap from safe mode.
3) if that doesn't work, clean it from a boot-cd with virus guard etc. (which you put together from a different pc, of course)
