change his surname to her wife's surname?
Answer this as well-
For instance-Bruce Smith and his wife Alice Parker ( she didnt change her last name)
Now Alice will be indicated as Mrs.Smith or Mrs. Bruce Smith
Then why wont Bruce be indicated as Mr. Parker or Mr. Alice Parker?
Dont you think law is still somewhat being a sexist?

Legally, the couple can do anything they want. I think they should change the last name entirely, each one adopting a common last name. On the off chance I got married, I'd keep my name the way it is. changing it is WAY too much of a hassle.

I dont think theres a law that the woman must adopt her husband's surname after marriage. She can keep it anyway she likes , but the problem comes when u have children.

actually it is the woman and the man's right to change their name at marriage...it is not a requirement. It has been practiced in the past where men have changed their name to the woman's as you have described, but it is rare.

The only reason a woman would change her name to the man's at marriage was to designate that she was now part of HIS clan as he was the head of the household as accepted by thousands of years of societal demands. It plays a bearing mostly in legal ownership of property and rights in historical days. In todays day and age, it denotes only that they have legally changed their name to his. It is the marriage papers that prove ownership in property and is required for any transaction nowadays. The paperwork, marriage license/certificate, always shows the wife's name and the husband's name as the originals as enterred by the legal abiding contract.

I never thought it was a LAW. As long as I have known the man could take the womans last name.

Tradition says that it's the other way.

its not a law - just a tradition. a husband can change his name to his wifes when they marry if he wants, theres no law saying it has to be the other way around. im never gonna change my name unless my husband has a REALLY cool second name like waganooza or something similar.

Women don't have to change their sirname. As a matter of fact some men change their sirnames to their wives'. Laws and traditions are not what they used to be any longer.
