Yesterday I had the worst headache in the history of headaches and asked my boss if I could go home, he said no, made me do a survey and work the whole day! Today I have been asked to make tea about 3 times since we have been here, no one else has made it and I am the most qualified out of the lot of them, I get paid less and all because I am youngest! Grrr Grrr! Thank god I have a new job!

Oh God do I feel your pain!!!
I spent five years working for a company and like all their employees was treated like something you stepped on.....I took a chance and now work for a fantastic company.....I earn more money, less stress, better atmosphere and the chances of advancement are so much better......they've even sent me back to college to get my degree..........
Don't ever settle for treatment like that.....if they don't appreciate you find a company that will

Good Luck in your new job btw ;)

Dear Me: As a migraine sufferer myself, I know exactly how you feel. And, as the youngest person in the Staff, I can understand you attributing your growing pains to this fact. Let me provide you an alternative view.

Supervisors are given a series of tasks to get done...that's why you / your colleagues were hired. I do not know your staff numbers, so his / her denial of letting you go "may" be a reflection of this fact. He needed this survey completed at that time and did not give it another thought. Empathy is a quality he is missing out of his leadership toolkit, But my friend, that is a fact of life. The same is true for the tea making. Suggest you look at this task as an opportunity to earn your stripes amongst the rest of the staff. It is not uncommon for the new individual joining the team to be given the most menial jobs. This "initiation ritual" got nothing to do with age and education background...your team is just testing your fit.

Experience will show you I am right...but this fact does not help you now. If you consider that this work environment is not the right for you for the reasons you stated, the best alternative is to move on. Connect with your network of friends and colleagues and let them know you are ready for a move.

Good luck and keep the headache medicine handy.

I constantly feel undervalued at work. I'm looking for a new job too. I have never had a manager that made me feel appreciated to be honest. I think that maybe they just want to come to work, get it out the way and go home. They're earning great money and have PAs to make their tea, so why should they care about the likes of us, who are the people actually doing the work??

Same same. When it comes to medical problems, you need to be more assertive though. If you need to, tell them you are popping to the doctor. They will write you a medical note to take the rest of the day off (and however much longer).

Don't get trampled on at work. You are there for them, not just the other way round. Sometimes people forget this. Good luck

Yes, it's mind-numbing, often tedious, and thankless. That's why it's called WORK. You're being paid to endure the awful environment, rather than enjoying a cool frappucino while sunbathing at the beach ;)

When it gets too depressing just remember-

Eagles may soar, but weasels don't get sucked into jet engines.

That unfortunately is an age thing, i know it sucks but...
If you are moving to a different job and its in a different place, it should get better, if however you are staying in the same company, don't expect miracles as most people will still view you as the kid!

I used to be that way, but now after 2 years, i am capable to speak up and made my boss appreciate me!

U should go to his boss and explain what is happening, and things will get better!!!

Yes but what is appreciation? I want money that's why I work. If I'm not getting it, I move on. If the love of the money is getting too stressful, I move on. Then it doesn't feel so bad.

Yeah. Doing a good job is like peeing your pants while wearing a dark suit. It gives you a warm feeling, but nobody else notices.

Good luck on your new job!
Don't let anyone at work walk all over you because you are the youngest. That is unfair!!!
