i got a phone off ebay (australia) and its faulty it doesnt work, the seller hasnt responded. what kind of protection has ebay got so i can be insured i will get my money back? what steps can i take?

Try calling the seller if e-mail doesn't work. It won't cost anything if you can contact them via Skype. If you can't reach them (seller must have phone number and contact information listed or they will be in violation of eBay policies) and they won't respond to e-mail, then file a Significantly Not as Described dispute. A good way to get your money back is if you paid by PayPal. Then file a PayPal dispute and they will help get the money back. You may have to pay for returning the product or some shipping:

It's easier said than done, but it helps to read the seller's offer very carefully, checking out the seller feedback, know the shipping and any handling charges, etc. especially if it's an international seller.

You need to file a "Significantly Not As Described" or SNAD report with Ebay. If you paid by Paypal, it might take you to their website, but they'll help you and teh seller come to a resolution, either through a refund or a replacement. File soon though because you only have 45 days to file if you paid by paypal and 60 with any other payment method.

If you paid for it thru paypal, you need to contact paypal and they will do a charge back
