Majorine is the feminine form of the name "Major".

This name comes "from a surname which was originally derived from the first name Mauger, an Old French form of the Germanic name Malger meaning 'council spear'. "

The surname was found among the Normans. In fact, there was a "Mauger"/"Major" who was the uncle of William the Conqueror.

In some cases, the male name "Major" is based on the English word "major" (either in the general sense of "one of superior rank" or specifically based on the army rank of "Major"). But is seems less likely that the feminine form would be derived this way. The French ending "-ine" further suggests that it comes from the French "Mauger", etc.
