embedded software is the term used to describe code that preforms a certain task in a stand alone device. Some examples would be a cell phone, iPod, TV Remote, or Garage door opener. There are many others also, basically anything with a microcontroller in it has embedded software in it. Another term used is firmware.

Embedded is a control within a program that calls another routine from outside the program to run in an embedded window. An embedded window is what you are typing in when you answer questions.

Embedded is also used with Microsoft Office.
When you embed an Excel workbook into a Work document, you insert information (from Excel) from one application into another (Word). In order for the computer to make sense of this information, the Excel info is said to be embedded into the Word document, and Excel will be opened when you double click on that particular information in Word.

if you mean embedded in the computer area it means a term used to describe an object, software, or hardware that is independent and does not need an external program or device to run it.
