Acupuncture can be very benefial but you need to get a new acupuncturist. It should not hurt and there shouls definitly not be any bruises or blood.
There is a saying in Japan that a good acupuncturist should be able to needle a sleeping cat, and that the cat should remain asleep!

maybe you can try acuPRESSURE instead. same thing but without the needles. the points are stimulated by pressing on them not jabbing them with needles. As far as placement, the meridian lines run up and down the body, so this is not wrong to have points worked in seemingly odd places. You may also try seeing a chiropractor and massage therapist for your headaches. Often times, HAs are caused by a "subluxation" of the cervical spine. That just means, that not everything is lined up quite right and the nerves that run through are compromised and disfunction sets in. You could also have "trigger points" in your neck, shoulders or upper back that are causing your headaches. Sometimes they can be resolved in as few as one session. Regardless, if you don't feel comfortable challenging your doctor, then you need to find one you're more comfortable with. Any reputable doctor will make sure to answer all your questions and help you understand what is going on. If he doesn't then BAIL

I have been having acupuncture 3x a week now for 2 months straight. The only time it 'hurts' is when the needle connects with the 'chi'. So what you refer to as 'hurt' does it describe what I just mentioned? When you get needles for headaches, the doctor will put the needles in the places that have the pain. If you have pain in several places or in different places each time you visit, this determines where you get 'needled'. You may also bleed a very small amount, one wipe as it's clean, this is ok. my doctor told me that I may have a few bruises, but I'd need to really look for them, I have small areas of discoloration, but I go every other day, so it's to be expected. Your doctor should have taken the time to explain the procedure to you, to your satisfaction. You should have personal recommendations from friends or associates as to the talent of your doctor and you should feel confident in his or her ability to treat you. They are not miracle workers, but if they have had proper training then you should see results. Do a web search about acupuncture to find out more information about this type of treatment, it will put you at ease if you are more informed about what you are to expect and how you are responding to your treatment etc. Hope this helps. P.S. my doctor is wonderful, I have confidence in him and have done everything myself which I suggested that you do.

If you come to see acupuncturist, you should remember many things:
1. Find professional acupuncturist, that have already practise for more than 3 years at least. (you can see if there are much patient waiting for him )
2. You can say to administration desk, that you have to see him, not for his assistance.
3. Acupuncturist should be registered by law.
4. Don't (ever) go to acupuncturist if:
a. After heavy meals, or drink stimulating drinks, likes coffee,
alcohol, etc. It will make your heart beat faster.
b. Come to him at noon. Because your blood flow come to its maximum
c. You consume drug. Tell him first. (usually high blood pressure drugs)
d. He never check your blood pressure.
e. You have obstructed bone.
f. etc.
Acupuncture is a treatment for all symptoms, but takes the whole body as one system. It make balance between Yin and Yang organs. So if you headache comes from spinal trouble, so you will take more needles on your back.
Usually, it will not hurt you, but just a little unease. He have to use fine needle for sensitive organ.
If you meet such bad experience. Please stop that treatments.
Go to another acupuncturist.

Well you shouldn't have bruising or be in pain....you shouldn't even feel it when they do it so I would turn the accupuncturist into the BBB and get a new one and get recommendations from friends/websites on which one to choose

I agree that you need to get a new accupuncturist. I don't think you should be having those type of problems. My dad sees one regularly and has seen many benefits.
