that there is no god, no supreme being, no creator, no anything other than what you can see, hear, touch, taste or calculate...
not long after the first crude language was developed somebody somewhere probably asked an awkward question... and at that point in time it couldn't be answered... perhaps it was "why does the sun rise in the east and set in the west?" instead of admitting they couldn't answer the question, the questionee probably thought it was a good idea to make something up... hence religion...
perhaps that person told somebody they made it all up? and perhaps that person told somebody else and so on? wouldn't that be the biggest kept secret on the planet, if the chain were still there?
dude 1 "why does that yellow thing rise over there, and set over there?" (points with finger)
dude 2 "I dunno.....er...... there's er.. this big dude, he made all of us, our planet and the solar system, and this funky thing called a time/space paradigm and he controls everything, and er... yeh.. he's like awesome, man."
dude 1 "woah, thats rad..."
a little while later...
dude 2 "hey, its totally f*cked... i made up this stuff about there being this big guy who made everything and all of us, and er... everybody's starting killing things... what going on? yesterday lambs, today they're killing each other!"
dude 3 "bummer dude, that totally sucks...."

obviously there is the extraterrestrial factor but i don't think it was that i think that the biggest kept secret in the world is something to do with religion!!!
I'm not quite sure the exact answer to the question because at the end of the day it is a secret.

on a dark and cold windswept tea break...in the old vauxhall plant at luton.... it was told in the motor industry.that many many years ago...in a poorly lit garage..somewhere in the world..that an inventor designed an engine...that would run on water....he took it to a major oil producer..and they got together with other manufacturers and bought the design and engine from him ........no one knows what happened to him or it.....so if its true it has to be the best kept secret in the world..hasnt it? no oil producer would want competion from that..would they?

The "fact" that we are unwitting slaves of the hllydiku who use us to supply them with an unending supply of radio noise and odd socks. They love "listening" to radio waves but have no idea that we convert them into sound. They value socks very highly but prefer them single and somewhat broken in.
