Check the seller's feedback, preferably a 97% or higher rating. If it's lower but you really want the item, look at the negatives, sometimes they're just from whiny buyers seeking revenge. But also be wary if most of the negative feedback came in the recent weeks.

READ THE DESCRIPTION. Know exactly what you're buying, make no assumptions if you're buying a used item; ask the seller questions if anything is unclear, (and use complete sentences please.)

Do not bid if you don't plan to pay. Winning does not mean you have the option of buying the item, it means you *will* buy the item.

Remember, you'll also be paying shipping fees on top of your winning bid.

Stick with sellers in the USA, (or whatever country you live in.) Not that there's anything wrong with foreigners, but your parents may feel more comfortable dealing with a domestic seller.

There are few things in the world anyone needs "right now". Put some effort into finding the best price.

Don't buy from anyone who sells a small item (like a memory stick for your PSP) for 99 cents but charges $50 for shipping. Those people are just trying to cheat eBay out of paying fees.

Make sure to go check out the sellers rating, all you have to do once you find the item you want is go to it, click on sellers name, and it will take you to their rating page. Actually called a FEEDBACK page because other customers leave either positive or negative feedback after making a transaction on ebay. If they have , oh for example the number 1,345 on their feedback page, and 100% of it is POSITIVE feedback....then that is a truthworry person who will not scam you for your money. But a small warning, its best not too buy from anyone that doesn't have at least 10 feedbacks ALL of which are positive.

PS. You DON'T always have to have a credit card just to buy off there, LOTS of people take cashiers checks , money orders, and personal checks
one last thing, don't forget to go back and leave feedback for that person once you recieve your item...the feedback is very important and helps to build a sellers reputation

I buy a lot of things on eBay. You have to have a credit card and use PayPal because that's what most of the sellers use. It's a secure site. Your parents would have to agree to do that for you. A secure site has a lock on your status bar (at least on Windows ME it does; other Windows might have something different but be sure the site is secure). Then give them your shipping address and credit card number. Then you can shop and they will charge your purchases to that card. Be sure not to give your credit card number on an unsecure site and never in an email. Happy shopping.

I've bought allot of stuff on E-bay, The key is feedback. If it's an expensive item look for lots of feedback and should be 98 0r 99% positive. also, read the feedback, to see what kind of experiences others customers have had with the seller. Anything else and you are just taking your chances.

If you find the item you're looking for from different sellers, select the ones who have a previous history of selling and check out their ratings. They are usually rated by people who have dealt with them. If the ratings are all positive, then you must be quite safe dealing with them.

Good luck

the biggest tip i can give you is to look through the sellers ratings ......if he has thousands of purchasers and a very high percentage have left positive feedback then ...I will use them .....

If they have a low feedback or a lot of negative comments - then beware ....
